May is Asthma Awareness Month

May is Asthma Awareness Month!

If you are an individual who suffers from asthma – there are nearly 26 million in the United States alone, and 7 million are children – then you know how important having clean air is. While nobody wants to breathe in air that they know is riddled with pollutants and diseases, for asthma and allergy sufferers, clean air can literally mean the difference between life and death.

May is the American Lung Association’s Asthma Awareness Month! It is a time when we can reflect as a community on what is currently being done to help treat these respiratory afflictions, as well as the progress that can be made in the future. The association wants to continue releasing accurate information regarding how to live with asthma or allergies.

Asthma can be triggered by a whole host of pollutants – car exhaust, cigarette smoke, road dust, pet dander – that we come into contact with in our day-to-day lives. By knowing what you are allergic to and always having your emergency medication handy, you will be able to remain active and not be troubled by the disease. Asthma and allergies can be controlled, you just need the necessary equipment.

Here are a few tips from the American Lung Association on how to control your asthma:

  • Avoid any type of smoke indoors, whether they are from cigarettes or candles
  • Be sure to limit your outdoor activities when the count of pollen or other triggers is high
  • Ventilation is important, so clean air should always be filtering into your home

This May, be sure to study up on asthma if you or somebody in your life happens to suffer from the disease. Being educated is an important first step toward preventing any serious medical issues. To keep the air in your home or office clean, invest in a Rabbit air purifier from US Air Purifiers Direct 2U.
