Researchers find link between the gene ORMDL3 and asthma symptoms

Researchers recently discovered that the gene ORMDL3 is linked to asthma symptoms.

A study conducted at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and published in the journal "Nature Communications" reveals how the gene ORMDL3 affects people who suffer from asthma.

According to ScienceDaily, researchers found that ORMDL3 — which they recently discovered plays a role in an individual's susceptibility to the chronic respiratory disease —also causes inflammation in the airway in mice.

"The discovery provides momentum for future understanding of the pathogenesis of asthma and role of genetics in inflammatory allergic reactions," states the source. "This research is not only relevant for asthma but potentially other allergic disorders such as those of the GI tract and skin."

However, researchers were quick to note that this is just a small bit of information, and that they will need to understand more about ORMDL3 in order to determine new methods of treatment for asthma patients.

It's always encouraging to hear that scientists are continuing to better understand chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma. For the 18.9 million adults and 7.1 million children in the United States who live with this irritating and potentially dangerous affliction, it can be difficult to maintain a good quality of life when symptoms get severe. Fortunately, there are products you can buy for your home that will help ensure improved health and comfort.

At Air Purifiers Direct 2U, we sell residential air purifiers that work by removing indoor pollutants that can exacerbate symptoms directly from the air. By installing one of these devices in your house, you may notice an immediate difference in your overall sense of well-being.
