Do Air Purifiers Remove Dust?

One of the most common questions the team at US Air Purifiers hears is whether or not a home in which an air purifier is used will still have to be dusted. While air purifiers that use HEPA filters do filter dust, it’s important to understand the degree to which they will be effective in removing dust for cleaning purposes.

  Do Air Purifiers Remove Dust?

To put things simply, yes, most air purifiers do remove dust from your home. HEPA purifiers will capture dust that is floating in the air, while probiotic air purifiers will reduce the amount of dust by consuming the resources that dust mites also use. There is, however, one class of air purifiers that will not effectively remove dust: carbon filter units. These purifiers are designed to capture odors and gases, rather than particulate matter. While many carbon air purifiers do have prefilters that will capture at least some dust, they are far from being as effective as HEPA units.

  Do Air Purifiers Eliminate Dust?

A better question to ask with regards to cleaning is whether or not air purifiers completely eliminate dust, to which the answer is a definite “no.” Even using a good residential air purifier, you’ll still need to dust and clean as you usually would. In large part, this is because air purifiers can only catch contaminants that are airborne. Dust, however, can settle on surfaces, making it difficult for a filter-based purifier to catch unless it is somehow dislodged into the air. Probiotic air purifiers can reduce the dust that settles on household object, but they won’t be able to eliminate it altogether.

With that being said, what’s important about using an air purifier isn’t whether or not you will still have to dust, but the immense health benefits you and your family can receive from breathing clean, healthy air. Removing dust from the air will help you breathe more easily, reduce your chances of allergic reaction and asthma attacks and make your home a healthier environment.
