Airpura R400: An All-purpose Air Purifier for Smaller Spaces
The Airpura R400 is a general-purpose air purifier capable of performing up to 2 air changes per hour in spaces of up to 1,000 square feet. The R400 features both a high-quality HEPA filter for particulate contaminants and an 8-pound activated carbon filter for gases and VOCs. Together, these filters allow the R400 to target most common household contaminants, including dust, dander, pollen, mold spores, chemicals, unpleasant odors and even gaseous organic compounds. The R400 can even be upgraded with an extra-powerful HEPA filter for an additional $35.
Despite its impressive filtering capabilities, the Airpura R400 is also a surprisingly quiet air purifier. Operating at just 32 decibels on low and 52 on high, the R400 helps to keep the air in your room clean without creating an irritating background noise. This makes the R400 a great choice for offices, bedrooms, dorm rooms, nurseries and other small spaces where a quiet environment is crucial.
Another key benefit of the R400 is its small size. Even with an 8-pound carbon filter and 40-foot HEPA filter inside it, the entire unit is just 15.5 inches high by 12 inches wide. Thanks to its small size, the R400 can fit comfortably in practically any space.
The R400 delivers excellent air flow. This unit is capable of moving 50 cubic feet of air per minute on its lowest setting. At medium and high, this increases to 140 and 283 CFM, respectively. Even on its highest setting, however, the R400’s power usage caps out at a modest 69 watts.
Finally, the Airpura R400 is a low-maintenance air purifier that requires only occasional filter changes. The prefilter should be washed every 3-6 months and changed every 6-12 months. The activated carbon canister, however, can last for as long as 2 years. The HEPA filter has even more impressive lasting power, as it can last for as long as 5 years before needing to be changed.

Airpura V400: Stepped-up Protection From Gases, Odors and VOCs
As good as the R400 is, it may not be powerful enough for those suffering from severe chemical sensitivities, severe asthma symptoms or other serious respiratory conditions. This is where the Airpura V400 comes into play. Like the R400, the V400 is equipped with a 40-square foot HEPA filter. In the V400, however, you’ll find an enhanced activated carbon filter designed to provide even more protection against chemicals and VOSs.
The V400 is capable of targeting specific chemicals that are known to aggravate respiratory conditions. The V400 also offers an enhanced air dwell time, giving the activated carbon more time to adsorb airborne chemicals. Impressively, the unit does not sacrifice air flow in order to achieve this higher dwell time, and the V400 can still perform 2 air changes per hour in spaces of up to 1,000 square feet.
Beyond this, the V400 provides all of the same basic benefits of the R400. Small size, quiet operation and minimal maintenance are all part of the vale proposition of this small, chemical-specific air purifier.
