Airpura T400DLX air purifier covers 1000 sq ft (depending on model and speed) and is specifically designed for heavy tobacco smoke and cigar use. It is designed to remove 4000 chemicals, tars and gases found in tobacco smoke. The impregnated carbon bed adsorbs over 4000 harmful chemicals, gases and at least 60 carcinogens.

Similar to the T400; however, the premium carbon found in the T400DLX has been impregnated & specifically is designed for maximum adsorption of these chemicals.

The Airpura T400DLX is a compact, all-metal air purifier made for heavy tobacco and cigar smoke. Smoke leaves behind more than a smell. It carries sticky tars, thousands of chemicals and gases, and at least 60 known carcinogens. The T400DLX addresses each of these with three stages: a TarBarrier pre-filter that traps tars, a 12-lb bed of carbon impregnated with potassium iodide for chemicals, gases, and odors, and a HEPA-Barrier for smoke particles 1 micron and larger. It covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. at 2 air changes per hour (ACH), depending on fan speed, and runs as quiet as 32 dB on low.
TarBarrier Pre-Filter Traps Sticky Tars First
Tobacco smoke carries sticky tars along with its chemicals and gases. The T400DLX traps those tars in its TarBarrier pre-filter, the first stage of filtration, before the air moves on to the carbon bed. The TarBarrier is a specific type of pre-filter made for tobacco tars. If tars aren't a concern in your space, a standard pre-filter can be used instead.
Impregnated Carbon for Smoke Chemicals and Odors
The heart of the T400DLX is 12 lbs of activated carbon impregnated with potassium iodide. The impregnation helps the carbon bind smoke chemicals such as benzene, toluene, and formaldehyde, along with the gases and odors that linger long after a cigarette or cigar is out. Airpura's carbon blends are formulated to adsorb over 4,000 airborne chemicals and VOCs. The 3-speed fan lets you match the airflow to your space, and lower speeds give the air longer contact time with the carbon.
HEPA-Barrier: Built for Smoke Chemicals First
Like Airpura's other C, T, and DLX models, the T400DLX uses a HEPA-Barrier post filter rather than a medical-grade True HEPA. Most of the space inside the unit goes to carbon, so the HEPA-Barrier captures 95% of particles at 1 micron instead of 99.97% at 0.3 microns. The T400DLX focuses primarily on smoke chemicals, gases, and odors rather than ultrafine 0.3-micron particles.
T400DLX vs. T400: What's the Difference?
Both units share the same compact 400-series housing, motor, TarBarrier pre-filter, HEPA-Barrier, and 12-lb carbon bed. The only difference is the type of carbon. The T400DLX uses Airpura's DLX carbon, impregnated with potassium iodide for greater adsorption of the chemicals and gases in heavy tobacco and cigar smoke. If the smoke in your space is lighter, the Airpura T400 is a good fit at a lower price.
Sizing Your T400DLX
At high speed, the T400DLX delivers about 2 air changes per hour in 1,000 sq. ft. with 8-foot ceilings. The number of air changes you need varies widely, and there are many rules of thumb. For example, clients with allergies or asthma often aim for 3–7 ACH, while bars, cigar rooms, and other heavy smoking areas may even call for 10–12 ACH, which often means more than one unit. The right number for you depends on how heavy the smoke is, how quickly it's coming in, how much filtration you want, and your own sensitivities.
When smoke odors and gases are the main concern, size the unit on medium speed so air moves through the carbon more slowly, and make sure it can clean the air faster than new smoke comes in. Sizing on medium also leaves you room to switch to high when the smoke gets heavier. A caution about small rooms: If you're aiming for more air changes in a small space, it may be tempting to choose a 700-series unit. In very small areas, though, a 700 can sometimes create a vortex effect. That means the unit can draw its own clean air back in instead of moving air through the whole room. To reduce that risk, we recommend more than one T400DLX or an Airpura T600DLX instead. For larger spaces, the Airpura T700DLX offers the same approach in a bigger unit.
