The Aerus ActivePure® Surface & Air Guardian air purifier covers up to 2,000 sq. ft. (185 m²) with uniform air diffusion.
The recommended maximum ceiling height is 10 feet.
Solutions should be customized based upon a variety of factors, including HVAC system capabilities and settings, airflow (taking into account walls, air pressure, and doors), ambient air temperatures and humidity, variable occupant density, known VOC concentrations, and other layers of protection.
The Aerus ActivePure® Surface & Air Guardian (Model A1040F) is a portable air purifier that works on both the air and the surfaces in your space. It combines patented ActivePure® Technology with an activated carbon filter and carbon brushes to help reduce many common bacteria, viruses and mold, along with VOC gases, smoke and odors. Aerus rates it for spaces up to 2,000 sq. ft. and describes it as perfect for single-room spaces and an effective solution for your home or small business. It's plug-and-play, with nothing to install.
The Surface & Air Guardian (A1040F) has replaced the Aerus Pure & Clean (A1040A), so if you've been looking for the Pure & Clean, this is the model that takes its place. The A1040F is CARB certified, meets California's ozone emissions limit and is validated to UL 2998.
Most air purifiers are reactive, cleaning only the air that passes through them. ActivePure® Technology is proactive. Instead of relying on how long air stays inside the unit, it works out in the room itself. Inside the Guardian, oxygen and water molecules from the air pass through the ActivePure® honeycomb matrix, where they're transformed into several types of molecules, including hydroxyls. Released back into your space, these molecules help reduce contaminants in the air and on surfaces for as long as the unit is running.
According to Aerus, extensive unaffiliated lab testing has shown that ActivePure® Technology reduces up to 99.9% of many common types of bacteria, viruses and mold in indoor air and on surfaces. In one unaffiliated lab test, the Surface & Air Guardian reduced 99.96% of airborne SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, within 1 minute. That test was run on the lowest setting using only ActivePure® Technology. Aerus notes that ActivePure® Technology does not replace the need to follow public health guidelines and should be used as a complementary technology.
ActivePure® is also the only air cleaning technology awarded the Space Foundation's Certified Space Technology seal, according to Aerus, and it was inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame in 2017.
The Guardian also has an activated carbon filter, plus multiple carbon brushes that aid in the capture of contaminants. Together with ActivePure® Technology, they help reduce VOC gases, smoke and odors without the use of ozone.
At 7.6 lbs and just under 12 inches tall, the Guardian is easy to move from room to room. Its adjustable fan runs at 45 dB(A) on low and 55 dB(A) on high. There's nothing to install. Just plug it in and turn it on, and maintenance is low.
Aerus rates the Surface & Air Guardian for up to 2,000 sq. ft. (185 m²) with uniform air diffusion and recommends ceilings no higher than 10 feet. HVAC settings, airflow, walls, doors, air pressure, temperature, humidity, occupant density, VOC levels and other layers of protection all affect results, so every space is a little different.
For best results, place the Guardian near the main source of the problem, near a cold-air return or in the area you use most. Set it on a firm, flat surface rather than a bed or other soft surface, and leave at least an inch of open space behind it.
