The Airpura G400 and G414 are compact air purifiers made for people who are chemically sensitive, including those with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS). They reduce airborne chemicals, VOCs, formaldehyde, gases, odors, and fine particles in the typical home, office, or workshop, using materials chosen to be gentle on sensitive clients. Each unit holds 8 lbs of German carbon with little to no odor, behind an organic cotton pre-filter. Both models cover up to 1,000 sq. ft. at 2 air changes per hour (ACH), depending on fan speed, and run as quiet as 32 dB on low.
Airpura G400: German Carbon with True HEPA
The G400 pairs 8 lbs of German carbon with a medical-grade True HEPA filter that captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. It's a great fit for sensitive clients who want gentle chemical and odor reduction plus dependable protection from dust, pollen, pet dander, and mold spores.
Airpura G414: German Carbon with H14 Super HEPA
The G414 uses the same German carbon bed and organic cotton pre-filter as the G400, but upgrades the particle filter to an H14 Super HEPA that captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns. We recommend the G414 for allergy and asthma sufferers, mold concerns, and fine smoke particles, especially for chemically sensitive clients who want the highest level of particle capture.
G400 vs. G414: What's the Difference?
The only difference between the two units is the particle filter. Everything else, including the all-metal housing, motor, organic cotton pre-filter, and 8 lbs of German carbon, is the same.
G400 – Medical-grade True HEPA (99.97% at 0.3 microns). A great fit for everyday dust, pollen, pet dander, and household particles.
G414 – H14 Super HEPA (99.99% at 0.1 microns) for a higher level of particle capture. Best when fine particles matter as much as chemicals.
German Carbon: Made for Sensitive Clients
Some people react to the carbon in a standard air purifier, especially when it's new. The German carbon in the G400 and G414 is a proprietary blend specially formulated for MCS sufferers. It's activated carbon that has been treated with oxygen to adsorb and trap odors, toxins, and a wide variety of chemical pollutants, including formaldehyde, and it has little to no odor of its own.

Organic Cotton Pre-Filters
The first stage of filtration is an organic cotton pre-filter. It catches larger particles like dust and hair before they reach the carbon and HEPA, which helps both last longer, and it's a better match for clients who want to avoid synthetic filter materials.
G400 / G414 vs. S400 / S414 for Formaldehyde
Airpura updated the German carbon formula, so the G400 / G414 now reduces formaldehyde too. If formaldehyde is your main concern, the SuperGas carbon in the Airpura S400 & S414 is stronger, but some chemically sensitive clients tolerate the German carbon in the G400 / G414 better. G400 / G414 vs. R400 / R414
The G400 / G414 uses the same basic filtration layout as the Airpura R400 & R414, but swaps in German carbon and organic cotton pre-filters for our more sensitive clients. If you don't have carbon sensitivities, the R400 / R414 is a good option for general particles and household odors.
Sizing Your G400 / G414
At high speed, the G400 / G414 delivers about 2 air changes per hour in 1,000 sq. ft. with 8-foot ceilings. The number of air changes you need varies widely, and there are many rules of thumb. For example, clients with allergies or asthma often aim for 3–7 ACH, while areas with heavy VOCs or smoke may even call for 10–12 ACH. The right number for you depends on what the contaminant is, how heavy it is, how quickly it's coming in, how much filtration you want, and your own sensitivities.
When VOCs are your main concern, size the unit on medium speed so air passes through the carbon more slowly, and make sure it can clean the air faster than the source adds to it. If you're aiming for more air changes in a small space, it may be tempting to choose a 700-series unit. In very small areas, though, a 700 can sometimes create a vortex effect. That means the unit can draw its own clean air back in instead of moving air through the whole room. To reduce that risk, we recommend more than one G400 / G414 or a 600-series model instead. For larger spaces, consider the Airpura G700.

Many factors come into play when choosing an air purifier, including the contaminants, coverage (enough air changes for the level of off-gassing), how quickly things are off-gassing, particulate matter, and your own sensitivities. The uses above are suggestions. Air purification isn\'t a black-and-white science, and things outside our control, like humidity or where the unit is placed, affect results. We wish there were one unit for every need, but there are always trade-offs, like sound versus power and budget versus filtration.
