The Airpura R400 air purifier is a compact, high-powered unit ideal for bedrooms, nurseries, offices, and other small spaces, thanks to its strong performance and low sound levels. It pairs a True HEPA filter with 8 lbs of activated carbon to target airborne particles, VOCs, gases, and odors, with the optional R414 H14 Super HEPA upgrade available for even finer filtration.
The Airpura R400 air purifier and the Airpura R414 air purifier are two compact, high-powered models built for bedrooms, nurseries, home offices, and other smaller spaces. Each one pairs a HEPA filter with 8 lbs of activated carbon, so it captures airborne particles and also adsorbs the VOCs, chemicals, gases, and odors that HEPA-only purifiers miss. Despite their small footprint, both models share the same quality construction as Airpura's larger R600 and R700 units, and they run quietly enough for overnight use.
The Airpura R400 air purifier is built around a medical-grade True HEPA filter that traps 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. It's an excellent everyday choice for homes, bedrooms, nurseries, and offices where you want reliable protection from dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, and common household odors.
The Airpura R414 air purifier steps up to an H14 Super HEPA filter that traps 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns, for even finer particle capture than the R400. The R414 is an excellent choice for dental and medical offices, clinics, nursing homes, and anyone with severe allergies, asthma, or heightened sensitivities.
The difference between the R400 and the R414 is the HEPA filter. The Airpura R400 uses a True HEPA filter that traps 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, a strong choice for everyday home use. The Airpura R414 uses an H14 Super HEPA filter that traps 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns, for finer particle capture in medical and dental settings or for people with severe allergies and sensitivities. Both models include 8 lbs of activated carbon, the same all-metal construction, and the same quiet operation.
The R400 also accepts the 414 H14 HEPA filter, so you can switch to Super HEPA the next time you replace your HEPA filter.
Many air purifiers focus on either particles or odors, but the R400 and R414 are each designed to handle both. The HEPA filter captures fine particles such as mold spores, pollen, pet dander, and dust, while the deep activated carbon bed adsorbs VOCs, household chemicals, gases, and odors. This balanced approach helps bring relief to allergy and asthma sufferers and improves overall indoor air quality for better long-term health.
The R400 and R414 use standard activated carbon, which works well for everyday household odors and chemicals. If specific chemicals or heavier VOCs are your main concern, the Airpura V400 & V414 use an enhanced, impregnated carbon blend with higher adsorption ratings.
At 32 dB on low, the R400 and R414 are barely louder than a quiet room (about 30 dB), and they reach 52 dB on high when you want faster cleaning. The simple 3-speed fan (low, medium, and high) makes it easy to match the airflow to your room. Each unit stands 15.5" high and 12" wide and weighs just 23 lbs. The all-metal housing prevents plastic off-gassing and comes in white or black with an oven-baked powder coat. The motor sits outside the airflow, so cleaned air doesn't pass over it and pick up impurities. Neoprene gaskets come standard, and custom felt gaskets are available on request (they're made to order, so they may add to ship time). Both models are made in Canada and backed by a 5-year parts and 10-year labor warranty on residential units.
At high speed, the R400 / R414 delivers about 2 air changes per hour (ACH) in 1,000 sq. ft. with 8-foot ceilings. The number of air changes you need varies widely, and there are many rules of thumb. For example, clients with allergies or asthma often aim for 3–7 ACH, while areas with heavy VOCs or smoke may even call for 10–12 ACH. The right number for you depends on what the contaminant is, how heavy it is, how quickly it's coming in, how much filtration you want, and your own sensitivities.
When VOCs are your main concern, size the unit on medium speed so air passes through the carbon more slowly, and make sure it can clean the air faster than the source adds to it. You can check your own room with our Air Changes per Hour Calculator, or contact us, and we'll help you find the right fit.
If you're aiming for more air changes in a small space, it may be tempting to choose a 700-series unit. In very small areas, though, a 700 can sometimes create a vortex effect. That means the unit can draw its own clean air back in instead of moving air through the whole room. To reduce that risk, we recommend more than one R400 / R414 or an R600 instead.
| Pre-filter | Clean every 3–6 months, change every 6–12 months |
| Carbon filter | Up to 2 years, depending on usage and contaminants |
| R400 True HEPA | Up to 5 years, depending on usage and contaminants |
| R414 H14 Super HEPA | Up to 5 years, depending on usage and contaminants |
Note: Filter maintenance is based on standard usage and average contaminants. Depending on your situation, filters may need to be changed more or less often.

If the R600 or R700 is more than your space needs, the R400 or R414 is an excellent, cost-effective option for healthier air.
Ideal for:
Choose the R414 for the finest particle capture. Its H14 Super HEPA filter captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns, so it\'s the one we suggest when mold, fine smoke particles, allergies, asthma, or heightened sensitivities are part of the picture.
These are just some of the uses for these units. Many contaminants fall into more than one category, so if you\'d like help finding the best unit for your needs, please contact us.
Keep in mind that many factors come into play when choosing an air purifier, including, but not limited to, the type of contaminants, coverage (enough air changes for the level of off-gassing), how fast things are off-gassing, particulate matter, and the sensitivities of the people in the space.
The uses above are simply suggestions. Air purification isn\'t a black-and-white science. There\'s a lot of gray area that affects results, including things outside our control, like humidity or even where the unit is placed. We wish there were one unit for every need, since it would make our job much easier, but there are always trade-offs, like sound versus power and budget versus filtration.
Don\'t hesitate to ask, especially if your contaminant levels are high.
Superior Dwell Time: The 395 CFM impeller/motor combined with the variable speed control and unimpeded airflow of the Airpura 400 series allows the airflow to be set precisely and achieve maximum results.
The 4-series allows our clients not only to enjoy the same high-quality filtration as the 7-series configurations but just in a smaller, compact unit.
