Can wearing sunglasses reduce your allergy symptoms?

Wearing sunglasses when you go outside during allergy season could help keep your symptoms at a minimum.

People who suffer from seasonal allergies will try almost anything to quell their irritating symptoms, but there are some potential solutions that are significantly easier to implement than others. According to Men's Health News, researchers in Turkey recently found that allergy patients who where sunglasses when they're outside during the day experienced less severe symptoms — not only in their eyes, but in their nasal passages as well.

"This doesn't surprise me," Dr. Leonard Bielory, an allergy specialist from Rutgers University, told the source. "We tell people that contact lenses improve ocular allergy, and when an ocular allergy is improved, nasal allergy improves."

The sunglasses essentially provide a barrier between your eyes and the pollen and UV rays that can both trigger allergy symptoms. If you're trying to cut down on the amount of medication you need to take to control your allergies, sporting some shades during the day could be the solution you need.

Wearing sunglasses is a great way to keep pollen out of your eyes and look cool while you're doing it. However, there are other small changes you can make to improve your comfort level while pollen counts are particularly high this fall. For example, by installing an air purifier in your home, you may notice an immediate difference. That's because this effective device works by removing indoor pollutants directly from the air so that they can't enter your eyes, nose and mouth and exacerbate your symptoms.
